Pulsar

Bajaj Auto launched its much awaited upgraded version of Bajaj Pulsar 220cc on June 23, 2009. The Company has claimed that the New Pulsar 220 DTSi is the fastest bike in India. The bike can reach top speed around 144-150 kmph, which is really good in comparison with other bikes of the segment. The changes made in this bike are the all-black engine, black alloy wheels and most importantly new carburetor instead of fuel injection, which makes the bike more different from the older version. The Pulsar220cc retains the same old type digital speedometer with front faring slightly changed. The tyres of New Pulsar 220 cc are wider. The bike has an all-black treatment with black forks, swing arm, alloys and engine paint. Other visual tit-bits are chiseled 3D graphics, a redesigned console background and revised clip-on handlebars. Power output has been pegged at 21.04PS @ 8500rpm, and the torque remains the same at 19.12Nm.

Engine
The new engine shares the same dimensions as the 220 DTS-Fi, but now breathes through a 32-mm venturi carburetor with an auto-choke feature. In addition, the intake port in the cylinder head has been modified, along with higher lift and duration cam. A larger resonator and catalytic converter are also used to increase performance. The higher engine performance has been matched to a modified 5th gear ratio, to make the New 220 Pulsar, 'The Fastest Indian Bike'. Apart from featuring new engine parts, the 220 cc bike also has better gearbox with reworked gear ratios, stickier rubber, better suspension, more powerful brakes and larger oil cooler.

Design And Comfort
The 2009 Edition Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi may not have any drastic design changes, but it surely looks quite different from its predecessor. Wheels and engine are in a rich shade of black. Raised 3D graphics on the tank are also a big plus. The bike comes with many new age features like auto choke, clip-on handle bar, split seats, engine oil cooler, fuel and battery charge indicators, etc. It also uses temperature based ignition mapping system through which the ignition timing is optimized to achieve good start, quick warm-up and outstanding torque. It is definitely an ideal machine for those who love to zoom with the raw power and thrill.

Ride And Handling
The New Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi is equipped with black top free loading suspension, both front and rear, which keeps the machine under neutral feel. The overall suspension mechanism remains the same except for the slight tweak in the front. The modified stronger and larger front fork delivers a feel, which gives more strength and power at high speeds. Another great asset of Pulsar 220 DTSi is softer compound tyres to increase the grip on the road and without sacrificing the stiffness of the tyre. It speeds from 0 to 60 kmph in just 3.8 seconds and from 0 to 100 kmph in 11.1 seconds. The bike gives 42.1 kmpl in city and 52.9 kmpl on highways. Quick shifts on transmission and the new clutch assist long-distance journey easily.

Variants, Price And Color
The 220 Pulsar is priced at Rs.70,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It also gives a standard two year warranty up to first 10,000 km. The color variants come in Black, Blue, Grey and Red.

The refined cockpit of Honda CR-V is quiet impressive. Its interiors have been beautified with a dynamic dashboard and plush leather upholstery.      The Much Awaited SUV from Toyota’s stable is all set to roll out in India. SCORPIO The Mahindra scorpio is one of the many SUVs that India has fallen in love with. Its big, its chunky and its a diesel. Mahindra launched this sometime back. It has done very well for itself Mahindra though decided to perk up sales further with some exterior cues and a different dashboard. But, is that the end of the story? We had a look.

Design and interiors

The scorpio has shape characteristic of SUVs, its big, its chunky and has loads of road presence. This design has been an eye-catcher among SUVs and has bagged many an award for its styling. There have been no changes done to the shape of the Scorpio. Mahindra though, wanted to bring some distinction between their previous models and this new one. Hence, this new scorp now has an air intake on its hood! No, its not the same types that you will find on those big supercharged American muscle cars, sorry; this one is sealed shut and meant for just looks. There are also changes done to the rear end of the Scorpio; it now has a huge tail lamp cluster running all the way from the roof to the bumper! Just like the Indigo marina you think, but you would be wrong because the top part of the lights don't actually work! The contoured tail lights also call for slightly different rear panels. Going through Mahindra's site, I came across something called the Air extractor!

Surprised as I was, I checked to see what it was; Its actually the plastic around the last of the side windows and guess what, it has holes. Seriously, Mahindra could really have tried better tricks to impress costumers. Many other minor cosmetic changes include a new style bumper which has air dams! Add on on spoiler ans ski racks to boot. Perhaps now, Scorpio owners will finally benefit from the extensive wind tunnel testing of the Scorpio which rendered the bonnet scoop completely shut! I don't mean to be hard on the Mahindra engineers and their redesign effort. It definitely is good and I'm glad to know that they have fast tracked their development program, unlike their competitors. But, I really hope that the marketing guys at mahindra exercise a little more discretion in their promotion efforts.

The interiors have also faced the designers pen so to speak, and Im sorry to say that perhaps the designer had too much ink in his pen. The interiors have tried to incorporate many things all at once. There are so many holes in this dashboard. There are holes underneath the rear AC vents! meant to hold big bottles, of water perhaps. But, all these holes and cubby holes are there no doubt and Im sure serve a purpose too, but one felt Mahindra engineers have spent much thought to incorporate this. But, perhaps these holes should not have been so many that the whole design seems like it was done just to please some design requirements; not to serve much purpose. It really broke our heart. But, still it is India's favorite SUV.
